Join Preserve Louisiana and host, creator and author of Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde… Life Stories about Food, Peggy Sweeney-McDonald, as they explore the charming town of Natchitoches, Louisiana for our third cultural and architectural tour from Friday, October 26 to Sunday, October 28, 2018. 

Tour Guests will get a taste of Natchitoches’s 30th Anniversary celebration of “Steel Magnolias”, a film that brought international attention to the city, while visiting film locations such as the home featured in the film. Tourists will also enjoy cocktails on the porch.

“Steel Magnolias is a movie loved by many and our tour will allow guests to experience the reality of a classic movie set for a weekend,” Sweeney-McDonald said. “From the antebellum homes and historic sites, to the delicious hometown meals this will be a fall weekend to remember.”

The weekend’s tours will also include the Oakland Plantation, the beautiful Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, the Fort St. Jean Baptiste Historic Site, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana Museum, the historic Front Street District on Cane River Lake and the Melrose Plantation where artist, Clementine Hunter, began painting her famous folk art.

A taste of Natchitoches will include Lasyone’s Meat Pie Restaurant, a catered lunch in a rustic bar at Melrose Plantation, Mama’s Oyster House with local blues music and the dinner show Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde…at Merci Beaucoup Restaurant. The show will be emceed by Sweeney-McDonald with local foodie friends who will share their life stories about food including: Rose and Johnnie Cox, owners of Merci Beaucoup; Arlene Gould, Executive Director of the Natchitoches Convention and Visitors Bureau; and Rhonda Gauthier, Curator of the Fort St. Jean Baptiste Museum, and Marlyn Monette, Cookbook Author of So Good Make You Want to Slap Your Mama.

Previous Preserve Louisiana Cultural & Architectural Tours included trips to New Iberia and Natchez, MS. Both tours included tours of beautiful historic sites, town favorites, cocktails, food and the Meanwhile, Back at Café’ Du Monde…show.

“We have enjoyed both the Natchez and New Iberia tours. Our favorite is the Saturday night Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde dinners. Peggy and the Preserve Louisiana staff do an excellent job and we look forward to future tours with them,” Vic Lefeve said.

The single traveler fee is $802 and double or couple travelers are $675 each. Preserve Louisiana’s Cultural & Historical Tour includes transportation on a luxury coach bus with bathroom, a two-night stay at the Fairfield Inn by Marriott in Natchitoches, all meals, snacks, tours and the Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde… show.
