Spend your Valentine’s Day weekend traveling, touring and tasting the Cajun delicacies of New Iberia. Join Preserve Louisiana and host, creator and author of Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde… Life Stories about Food, Peggy Sweeney-McDonald, for the second Cultural & Architectural Tour to Cajun Land from Friday, Feb.16 through Sunday, Feb.18, 2018.
Sweeney-McDonald, in partnership with Preserve Louisiana, will explore the culture, architecture and history of New Iberia, Avery Island, Jefferson Island and St. Martinville.
“It will truly be a tasty journey as we will savor the different history and food in the part of Cajun Country where Spanish, French, Acadian, African American and Native American roots mingle,” Sweeney-McDonald said.
Preserve Louisiana’s Cultural & Architectural Tours traveled to Natchez, Mississippi in January 2017, where they enjoyed antebellum homes, fresh rum and a home cooked meal prepared by cookbook author Regina Charboneau.
“Peggy and Preserve Louisiana did a great job in meeting the needs of the attendees and her relationship with the Natchez people participating in the programs made it so much better,” said Natchez tour guest Vic Lefeve.
This year, guests will walk the beautiful pepper fields of the Tabasco Factory and Jungle Gardens, visit the mystique and alluring Shadows On the Teche Plantation, view interactive exhibits at The Bayou Teche Museum, and discover historical sites like the Joseph Jefferson House and Rip Van Winkle Gardens, Evangeline Tree and Monument, and the Museum of the Acadian Memorial.
Attendees will also enjoy delicious cuisine from the Little River Inn and the Jefferson Café, a seafood buffet and Cajun dancing at Landry’s Cajun Food and Steak House and an elegant dinner with the Meanwhile, Back at Café Du Monde… live show at the Antique Rose Ville. Sweeney-McDonald will emcee the popular show with local foodies who will share their life stories about food including: Bonnie Breaux, Executive Chef of Café Sydnie Mae and 2017 Seafood Queen; Tuesday Sunshine, Pastry Chef of Indulge Sweet Spot; Stanley Dry, Louisiana Life Kitchen Gourmet columnist, former senior editor of Food & Wine magazine and author of The Essential Louisiana Cookbook; and Linda Freyou, chef/owner of Antique Roseville.
“These trips are more than a cultural and architectural tour as we will be mingling and dining with local New Iberia personalities and hearing their personal and touching stories around their culture and food,” she said.
